Native rights in Igbo land- Oke omunna

Native rights in Igbo land- Oke omunna

Okem akwalam (native rights) is a big thing amongst the gathering of Umunna (Kinsmen) in Igbo land

Denying one of such rights (Oke) in AlaIgbo is tantamount to denying their existence & not taking lightly by even the rich.

This is one gathering where being a "senior" is the sweetest and anyone who attempt to claim the wrong age can told his family history.

Some have erroneously claimed that the older people (ndi okenye) takes almost half of the Oke (share), but this is not true as traditional sharing system takes care of any injustice by ensuring that the youngest among the gathering arranges the items to shared, and knowing that they will pick last, they makes ensure share portions are equally distributed as possible.
